Renaming The States

Context: The Kerala Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a resolution, to amend the Constitution and change the state’s name from ‘Kerala’ to ‘Keralam’.

This resolution, calls for invoking Article 3 of the Indian Constitution to update the name in the First Schedule.

Procedure for renaming the states:

Renaming the states in India is governed by Article 3 of the Constitution, which empowers Parliament to alter the name of any state by law.
The process can be initiated by either Parliament or the State Legislature. A bill must be introduced in Parliament on the recommendation of the President, who then refers it to the state legislature for their views.
The bill is passed in each house by a simple majority. Once the President assents, the name change is recorded in the First and Fourth Schedules of the Constitution.

यह प्रस्ताव, पहली अनुसूची में नाम को अद्यतन करने के लिए भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 3 को लागू करने का आह्वान करता है।

राज्यों का नाम बदलने की प्रक्रिया:

भारत में किसी राज्य का नाम बदलना संविधान के अनुच्छेद 3 द्वारा शासित होता है, जो संसद को कानून द्वारा किसी भी राज्य का नाम बदलने का अधिकार देता है।
यह प्रक्रिया संसद या राज्य विधानमंडल द्वारा शुरू की जा सकती है। एक विधेयक को राष्ट्रपति की सिफारिश पर संसद में पेश किया जाना चाहिए, जो फिर इसे अपने विचारों के लिए राज्य विधायिका को भेजता है।
विधेयक प्रत्येक सदन में साधारण बहुमत से पारित किया जाता है। एक बार राष्ट्रपति की सहमति के बाद, नाम परिवर्तन संविधान की पहली और चौथी अनुसूची में दर्ज किया जाता है।
