Bio Bitumen

Context: India plans to produce bio-bitumen from biomass and agricultural waste to reduce its dependence on imports and tackle the problem of stubble burning in road construction.

Currently, India imports about half of its annual bitumen requirement. Bio-bitumen will be tested on a 1 kilometer road in a pilot study by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) and the Indian Institute of Petroleum, Dehradun. The objective of this initiative is to save foreign exchange, achieve self-reliance in bitumen production and provide solution to stubble burning.

About Bio bitumen :

Bio-bitumen is an eco-friendly alternative to conventional petroleum-based bitumen, which is primarily used in road construction and roofing.

It is derived from renewable biomass sources such as agricultural residues, forestry waste and other organic materials.

The development and use of bio-bitumen aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and reduce the environmental impact of bitumen production and use.

जैव बिटुमेन

भारत आयात पर अपनी निर्भरता कम करने और सड़क निर्माण में पराली जलाने की समस्या से निपटने के लिए बायोमास और कृषि अपशिष्ट से बायो-बिटुमेन का उत्पादन करने की योजना बना रहा है। वर्तमान में, भारत अपनी वार्षिक बिटुमेन आवश्यकता का लगभग आधा आयात करता है।
केंद्रीय सड़क अनुसंधान संस्थान (सीआरआरआई) और भारतीय पेट्रोलियम संस्थान, देहरादून द्वारा एक पायलट अध्ययन में 1 किलोमीटर की सड़क पर बायो-बिटुमेन का परीक्षण किया जाएगा।

इस पहल का उद्देश्य विदेशी मुद्रा बचाना, कोलतार उत्पादन में आत्मनिर्भरता हासिल करना और पराली जलाने का समाधान प्रदान करना है।

बायो-बिटुमेन पारंपरिक पेट्रोलियम-आधारित बिटुमेन का एक पर्यावरण-अनुकूल विकल्प है, जिसका उपयोग मुख्य रूप से सड़क निर्माण और छत बनाने में किया जाता है।

यह नवीकरणीय बायोमास स्रोतों जैसे कृषि अवशेष, वानिकी अपशिष्ट और अन्य कार्बनिक पदार्थों से प्राप्त होता है।

जैव-बिटुमेन के विकास और उपयोग का उद्देश्य जीवाश्म ईंधन पर निर्भरता को कम करना और बिटुमेन उत्पादन और उपयोग के पर्यावरणीय प्रभाव को कम करना है।
